Sun, Wind and Rain

Sun, Wind and Rain

actual image size: 29cm x 22cm

Description

The watercolour depicts the often unpredictable character of the English weather. The wind turns over the foliage in the foreground, but it also blows away the rain clouds, allowing the sun to break through. The patch of sunlight on the left draws attention to a train steaming across the horizon. The inclusion of the train and the title of the watercolour make reference to the oil painting 'Rain, Steam and Speed - the Great Western Railway' that Turner exhibited at the Royal Academy in the previous year.
